Abstract
Poor air quality poses a significant environmental risk to public health in the UK. Long-term exposure to air pollution is linked to chronic conditions such as cardiovascular and respiratory diseases as well as lung cancer, leading to reduced life expectancy. Similarly, the World Health Organization (WHO) provides evidence of links between exposure to air pollution and type 2 diabetes, obesity, systemic inflammation, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Thus, air pollution adds increased pressure on the
NHS and health services across the globe.
